Long Weekend

The weekend started at 5PM on Friday with a phone call from my boss: "We need to perform termination procedures for two employees." Being responsible for the network in a corporate environment is a little awkward. There are times when I know someone is going to get axed before they do. In the past, I've known sometimes months ahead of time. That's not a fun part of the job.

It was bunco night, so the kids and I turned all the lights off and watched "Madagascar" for the 15th time. After the kids got to bed, I got online and played some poker. I entered a 45 man tournament on Full Tilt, and completely dominated, almost from the very beginning. I took the chip lead about 30 minutes in and never really looked back. By the time we were down to 4, I had four times the chips as the rest of the field combined. I ended up playing for about 4 hours, and had an ROI of 1600% or so. So my $1 investment was well worth it.

DearWife got home late and slept late. When she awoke, details were slow to emerge. I'll cut out the gory details, except that throughout the day, when we'd see people on the street, they'd ask her "Are you feeling ok?" and say "You were funny last night." Later that night she would say "I was suffering all day with a hangover." The first rule of hangovers is you never complain about them. They are self-inflicted wounds.

Sunday brought a baptism ceremony far far away, and a missed Bears game. But at the end of the day, the lawn got mowed, and I stormed through the Bears game in about 1.5 hours (thank you TIVO).
