This post was going to be called the Easter Miracle of 2006, or how Khyle got DearWife to Vegas for their 14th anniversary. Last week, I got approval for a conference in Vegas at the end of the month. Coincidentally, I would be there right before our anniversary. Seeing as have not had a vacation since BigBrother was born, I thought maybe now was the time.
All week DearWife teetered on the razor sharp line of decision making. I’m paraphrasing, but her thought process was like this: “Do I get out of the house and have some fun for 3 days with my husband while completely abandoning my children?” Eventually, she succumbed. “I almost have to go. You’re going to be there anyway, it’s our anniversary.”I sprinted to my PC and printed out a map of the strip, and a spreadsheet indicating cost and strengths of the various hotel\casinos. It was decided that we would stay at Bellagio. “If we’re going to do it, let’s do it right.”On Sunday, as I was trying to remain calm despite 3 sugar OD’d kids running around the house for several hours, DearWife’s resolve began to break. After everyone left, I was finishing up the cleaning while she took a shower.
I hear the water stop. Generally that means about 15-20 minutes until I see her again, as she has a routine. I don’t ask about the routine, but my reconnasaince of our bathroom indicates that it involves a lot of bottles that have French words on them are involved.
Regardless, I hear her walking down stairs about 2 minutes after the water stops. I immediately know why. “Hon, we need to talk. I don’t want to go to Vegas.” It was relief on my part as much as anything.
However, I will be going to Vegas for a geek convention. And if you think I’m going to involve myself in complete debauchery, you should know my first question to the conference is going to be “Is there wireless internet access?” But it will mark a return to the site of my best poker outing ever. So I will have to head to the Sahara and try my luck.I am seriously considering mounting a web cam at my house so I can at least see the kids when I’m gone. It really just hit me last night how much I’m going to miss the kids. I’d been so focused on getting DW to spend a little time sans kids, I didn’t think about not seeing the kids for so long.
